The Village of Antioch, Illinois stinks.

The Village of Antioch, Illinois stinks. Or at least it did over the weekend.

A small spill during the removal of 80 tons of sewage plant sludge was reported on Route 83 which caused a significant odor.

In the past the village used settling ponds but did away with those a few years ago. Now about 16 truckloads of dried sludge is removed twice a year by a certified vendor and used on crop fields and other agricultural areas.

"Small amounts might have been on the bumper and tailgate and fell off while the trucks were moving", explained Jim Keim, director of physical services. "But we sent a street sweeper to clean it up shortly after and I drove Route 83 today, and there was no more problem" he reported.
